Translucent concrete installation
Our traditions are important elements of our identity, and are well worth preserving: while this is especially true of architecture, the latter also plays a key role in innovation, which facilitates technological development. Litracon®, the translucent concrete created by Hungarian architect Áron Losonczi is both a fresh invention of high international prestige, and a sensitive, timely reflection on contemporary architecture’s aspirations for transparency.
Built as a temporary installation, the pavilion offers a special, alternative means of entry to the exhibition. The wall that faces the square was constracted from Litracon pXL® translucent concrete. During the day, it makes use of natural light, presenting a shadow play for those inside as visitors pass by it on the outside. After dark, the situation reverses, and the surface becomes a vast concrete display as the animation projected on the inner surface glimmers through the 8 cm thick reinforced concrete panels.
The winner of multiple prestigous awards in Hungary and abroad, Litracon® products are gaining popularity the world over. TIME Magazine called the new material one of the most important inventions of 2004.
